This Old House meantime came up with a comprehensive guide on unclogging toilet sinks.

“Most minor sink clogs can be cleared with a plunger. Partially fill the sink with water, then start plunging. Vigorously work the plunger up and down several times before quickly pulling it off the drain opening. If it’s a double-bowl kitchen sink, stuff a wet rag into one drain opening while you plunge the other one. If it’s a bath sink, stuff the rag into the overflow hole. In both cases, the rag helps deliver the pressure directly to the clog. If plunging doesn’t work, grab the cable auger and go to work under the sink. Remove the sink trap with a pipe wrench. The large, threaded coupling on PVC plastic traps can often be unscrewed by hand.”

“Children are different from adults. They may be more vulnerable to chemicals and organisms they are exposed to in the environment because: (1) Children’s nervous, immune response, digestive and other bodily systems are still developing and are more easily harmed; (2) Children eat more food, drink more fluids, and breathe more air than adults in proportion to their body size – so it is important to take extra care to ensure the safety of their food, drink and air; and, (3) They way children behave – such as crawling and placing objects in their mouths – can increase their risk of exposure to chemicals and organisms in the environment.”

Only Hire an Electrician to Fix Electrical Problems

Top four reasons to hire a licensed electrician

Only Hire an Electrician to Fix Electrical ProblemsWith the many home accidents involving electrical problems, it is but imperative for homeowners to discern the type of professional help to hire.

It may be easier to hire the first person that turns up in a search, or more inexpensive to hire a random unlicensed electrical handyman but the risks of all these far outweigh the benefit a homeowner can possibly get.

Experts continue to advise property owners to only hire an electrician to fix electrical problems for their own safety. Here are the top five reasons why anyone should go the extra mile in choosing an electrician contractor, plus spend extra money to hire one.

  1. Safety reasons. No family or person should be part of the statistics of those that have been injured (fatally or otherwise) from electrical fires. One way to reduce these incidences is to only hire an electrician to fix electrical problems. Do not attempt to troubleshoot nor save on expenses by hiring fly-by-night unlicensed electricians or electrician contractors. The extra cost is worth the family’s safety and peace of mind.

The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has shared in its website, statistics on electrical fires and accidents. “Home electrical fires account for an estimated 51,000 fires each year, nearly than 500 deaths, more than 1,400 injuries, and $1.3 billion in property damage. Electrical distribution systems are the third leading cause of home structure fires. Each year in the United States, arcing faults are responsible for starting more than 28,000 home fires, killing and injuring hundreds of people, and causing over $700 million in property damage.” Read the whole article here.

Although these statistics cannot be solely attributed to incompetent and unlicensed electricians, ensuring that a knowledgeable and licensed person is working on a home’s electrical system, reduces the safety risks.

  1. It is more cost-effective. Hiring a licensed electrician contractor may be more expensive, and will mean more costs upfront, but hiring a professional would mean that the electrical systems are fixed for the long haul. Licensed electricians know how to spot potential problems and will definitely not hold off replacements and permanent solutions in responding to home electrical problems.

These licensed electricians will also recommend and only use genuine and top quality electrical materials and supplies, hence a property owner can be sure that once fixed, the current electrical problem will not resurface for a much longer time. Gforce Green Electric Solutions Contractors

  1. Less Hassle. There definitely is no need to process permits, and other paper works to go work on electrical systems and fixtures in a property once an owner hires a professional contractor. These contractors already know the ins and outs of electrical work and the procedures that come with it, so it is less stressful to hire a licensed electrician.
  2. To Protect Oneself from Injuries. Protect oneself from the accidents that can come about when troubleshooting on one’s own by hiring professional help. They have the training and safety equipment to undertake electrical troubleshooting and repair as safe as possible.

Hiring a licensed electrician is the only way to go when faced with electrical concerns.
